Introduction

Welcome to the Eagle Vs Shark Movie Poster Design Competition!

From the wilds of New Zealand comes Eagle Vs Shark, an Official Selection at Sundance, SXSW Film Festival and Winner for Best Screenplay at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival!

EAGLE VS. SHARK, directed by Academy Award(r)-nominee Taika Waititi (the short, Two Cars On Night), is a wry comedy that chronicles the quirky romance of two awkward misfits, Lily (Loren Horsley), a shy fast-food restaurant cashier, and her crush, Jarrod (Jemaine Clement, HBO's One Night Stand: the Fight of the Conchords), an electronic store clerk.  On the day Lily gets fired from her job at Meaty Boy, she musters up the courage to attend Jarrod's annual "come as your favorite animal" costume party.  The dressy affair sparks the beginnings of a romance as well as a small journey for the pair to Jarrod's quiet hometown, in which Jarrod plans to seek revenge on an old nemesis and where Lily unwittingly finds herself stranded amongst Jarrod's family of eccentrics.


The Contest!

So, the contest is as follows, you may use the following resources, that can be found here and here, to create the layout for a movie poster and use any of the following images to design a movie poster for it, or you can choose to freehand it and make up your own based off the trailer or any of the available promotional material for it from the Eagle Vs Shark website! The winning entry will be used as a print ad in The Onion newspaper which is distributed to over 3 million readers!

Rules and Deadline

The winning entry will be used outside of the DeviantArt website in order to advertise and promote the competition, the motion picture "Eagle vs Shark", and/or Miramax and DeviantArt.com generally, and the person who submitted the winning entry may be required to confirm this understanding in a signed writing as a condition of winning. Competition entries will otherwise be used in accordance with the DeviantArt Terms of Service and, more particularly, the Submission Agreement referenced in Paragraph 15 of the Terms of Service.  By submitting an entry into the competition, each entrant acknowledges and agrees that he or she has read, understood and unconditionally agrees to such Terms of Service and Submission Agreement.

The entry deadline is June 22nd at Midnight Pacific Standard Time.

Entries need to be submitted as normal for viewing but you must also submit an .eps file for download to qualify for first prize and must be at least 2000x3000 pixels to be printed for the ad. A lack of proper printing file will result in disqualification and the runner up will be awarded first place.

As many of you know, the Mature Content filter was changed pretty drastically to an 18 and older system. This was necessitated by abuse of the system and was put in place as a stop gap measure while we gathered in depth opinion from the community as to what they desired to see in place, and from the artists who post such work.
If you would like to see the course of those events please check out my last several journals as they document this as well as other policy related discussions.
That said, we have made some pretty significant changes to the filtering system to allow for the most flexibility to everyone involved, from viewer to artist. One of the biggest issues we faced was people simply not marking their work if it was mature content or not, and this was mainly due to that option being buried at the bottom of the submission process. To balance that we have now made checking yes or no to Mature Content mandatory to complete your submission. T

Weekend to End Breast CancerIntroduction
For the past 5 years our very own $Moonbeam13 has been involved in supporting and raising money for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer event in Toronto.

She has done this in a fairly quiet and discreet way so we felt it was time to shed a bit more light on what exactly she does for this great cause.

To give a bit of background, in the past 4 years this organization has raised over 60 million dollars in donations and through this has made some landmark strides in advancing the research on breast cancer, which claims the lives of close to 50,000 women a year and about a quarter million women diagnosed per year.

In many cultures, Spring is traditionally a time which brings a period of time where you take time out to give your house a good cleaning, get rid of any unwanted items which have been gathering dust for a while, and generally put everything back in it's right place.
I always hear that people consider deviantART to be their home -- I know I do -- so why not apply this thought to our devious home too?
The Big Spring Clean project is aimed at doing just that very thing. Making sure that our galleries are spick and span, and that everything is in it's right place. Miscategorised (miscats) deviations are about to feel a sweeping of brushes from all sides, and we'd like you get your sleeves rolled up to help out.
