News! News?!? NEWS!!!!!
News. Hot button issue, or more accurately, a hot topic issue. The news system as of right now is very…chaotic. People are going willy nilly with it and posting whatever they like and for a while it was even appearing in your message center. Let me address that quickly. A fix was made so that users can no longer submit to Hot Topics, DA Blog or Notices, so no more goofy spam showing up there anymore. If something shows up in there is has been posted by an administrator. So that should clear up some immediate clutter and abuse potential.
Next, things will be getting tweaked so things can be down voted, thus leaving things of a higher quality to rise to the top. Speaking of quality, I understand you are all excited about being able to submit news on your own now. But does this mean you should simply submit an article that says “I don’t know what to submit?” No it does not. You, as an individual need, need NEED! to take a bit of responsibility for what you write.
This has the potential to be seen by every single user of deviantART and if it keeps filling up with clutter and pointless sillyness, mindless jibberish and assorted tomfoolery eventually everyone will cease looking at it. Think about the concept of news. It is informative, or it can be gossip, or it can be an editorial viewpoint. But saying you had a good day and subbed a new pic, is that really news? Nah not at all. That’s journal stuff.
This system can truly only be as good as you make it. What would you rather be known for as a community? A group of people who took this thing to a higher level and show the world at large that you can write compelling articles about artwork and current issues, or be known as a joke where people come to laugh at how shamefully bad it is? Some of you that have been here a while and some newcomers may not realize it but we get a lot of views from all sorts of people. We are moving up higher and higher on Alexa, months back we broke into the top 200 and keep climbing. So think about that when you post.
While you may think its funny to post something utterly silly, you could be wasting a chance to have it being seen by someone who works for some sort of publication looking for a writer or an editor or a reporter or a new artist via a news article. Plus, there are a lot of people out there saying the audience at DA is too immature to use this system properly. Too young and too childish and not able to be serious at all. I think you could prove all those naysayers wrong don’t you?
If you are with me, think twice about your next news submission and represent yourself how you wish to be seen. Prove that you have something worth reading.
Here is the link to this as a news article News news! Go promote that and comment on it, or if you wanna comment on it here copy and paste your thoughts over there as well. Let's make this thing work!
And someone make an I Support Good News stamp and link it here. Winner gets a year sub. Runner up gets 6 months and 3rd gets 1 month. Get to it!
